What is Fluid Truck?

Fluid Truck is a peer-to-peer truck share marketplace, where neighbors can easily find and rent the vehicle they need to get their job done. Download Fluid Truck on the App Store and Google Play.

General FAQs
What makes Fluid Truck awesome?

Fluid Truck cuts through the hassle and expense of renting a vehicle through a traditional brick-and-mortar store. Find the vehicle you need nearby in just a few clicks on the Fluid Truck app, starting as low as $6 per hour.

Fluid Truck also offers a fantastic opportunity to run a no-hassle side business. Our lenders earn $1000s per year by renting their vehicle in our marketplace and only invest a few minutes of their time each week.

Fluid Truck’s peer-to-peer truck sharing app helps bring together communities and drive sustainability, by connecting neighbors to share vehicles (without any of the awkwardness of asking your neighbor for some cash).

As we like to say, #TruckYEAH.

How quickly will I be approved to rent a vehicle on Fluid Truck?

We’re committed to creating the safest truck sharing community. Fluid Truck performs a comprehensive verification of each potential borrower, including a DMV background check, and address and mobile number verification. Most IDs are approved within just a few minutes, though some states’ DMVs take a bit longer. To check the current status of your ID verification, go to the Fluid Truck app, select menu, then select “view profile”, and look under “account verification” to see your current status. If it’s your first time renting, we recommend booking one day in advance. After your ID is approved, all of your future transactions will be approved instantaneously.

As the borrower of a vehicle, you are responsible at all times for your conduct and activity during the entire reservation. Please refer to our Terms of Service for additional information. Fluid will hold borrowers responsible for conduct causing or contributing to accidents, injury, or damage, and all borrowers may be required to pay deductibles, fees, and other costs. Additionally, Fluid Truck may charge your card on file at the onset of any claim to satisfy any deductibles. In the event that the level of damage is less than the deductible charged, Fluid will refund residual amounts charged to your account.

How does Fluid Truck’s insurance work?

While Fluid Truck is not an insurance provider and doesn’t sell insurance plans, we do contract with borrowers to offer Fluid Protect for added peace of mind. Without Fluid Protect, reservations only have liability coverage for third-party claims* (i.e. damages to another person or vehicle when hit by a Fluid Truck vehicle). However this doesn’t cover damages caused to a Fluid Truck vehicle by the borrower - meaning that unless you (the borrower) have a personal auto-policy that covers rental vehicles (and unfortunately many don’t), you would be on the hook for physical damage.

Since we want our borrowers to be able to enjoy their Fluid Truck reservation experience worry-free, we offer two Fluid Protect options to put your mind at ease when you hit the road:

  1. Fluid Protect - Get into a minor accident? Under our contract with you, you will only have to pay up to $3,000 out-of-pocket. Any amount over $3,000 in damages would be covered by Fluid.**
  2. Fluid Protect Premium - Looking for total peace of mind? Pick this plan to safeguard against worst case scenarios. In the event of an accident, the borrower will only have to pay $500 out-of-pocket for damages and Fluid will cover the rest.**

All Fluid Protect plans are optional contracts between you and Fluid that govern how certain damages will be treated and who will pay. If you want to risk taking on the liability you are able to decline any contract protections related to physical damage. If you decide to take this path, we strongly recommend that you verify your personal auto insurance policy or credit card insurance***  covers rental damages.  There are no refunds for Fluid Protect plan selections.  In the event that a commercial or business borrower elects a Fluid Protect plan, all Fluid Protect plan protection will serve as excess protection after the physical damage coverage under the borrower’s commercial insurance policy has been exhausted.   Fluid reserves the right to cancel or void Fluid Protect plans upon written notice to the borrower.

*Third-party coverage under Fluid is secondary to any other policies that the borrower  may have and are limited to $25,000 for bodily injury ($50,000 per accident limit) and $15,000 in property damage coverage (or the state required minimum financial responsibility level). This coverage will not pay for loss or damage to the Fluid Truck rental vehicle or the borrowers medical expenses. Fluid also provides borrowers with third party liability coverage during the reservation up to $1,000,000. Wherever possible, Fluid has waived coverage for uninsured or underinsured motorists and personal injury protection or Fluid provides the minimum coverage limit permitted by state law.

**Fluid coverage, insurance and Fluid Protect contracts may be voided if the borrower was in violation of Fluid’s terms & conditions at the time of the accident (i.e. driving under the influence, unauthorized driver)

***Credit Card insurance is often considered secondary supplemental insurance and often does not cover third party liability claims.

By offering daily and weekly rates at a discount, you can incentivize longer rentals and raise overall average earnings. Many of our lenders start their price at $5/hour and make changes depending on level of usage, seasonality, and length of rental period.

Lender Topics
Once I list my vehicle, how long does it take to get my first reservation?

Fluid Truck's vehicles are most often reserved by your neighbors and nearby community — individuals that live within just a couple of miles of you. For that reason, we recommend that you promote your vehicle on Nextdoor and other community bulletin boards to let your neighbors know that your truck is available. This will help ensure your first reservation happens quickly (usually within the first week or two after you list), and that you drive recurring revenue by having your neighbors rent your vehicle on a regular basis. Check out our blog on how to promote your vehicle on Nextdoor.

We also recommend that lenders stay in close communication with potential renters to respond to any comments or questions. Responding promptly to borrowers through Fluid Truck’s in-app messaging system helps quickly lock in reservations.

Lender Topics
How do I get paid?

Fluid pays you via direct deposit.

Lender Topics
When do I get paid?

Lenders will be paid within five days following a completed reservation. It can take 3-7 business days for your bank to process the transaction and post the money to your account. To receive payment for your reservations, enter a debit card into the payment section of the app.

Lender Topics
How do I charge additional fees such as fuel, mileage, smoking, and late fees?

Lenders can charge additional fees before closing out a reservation. Lenders must clearly disclose each additional fee associated with their vehicle prior to booking a reservation. The most common additional fees lenders charge are for fuel, mileage, smoking, and late returns. As a courtesy, we recommend that lenders message the borrower from within the app with additional fees prior to charging them. You will receive payment of any additional fees charged at the same time you receive payment for the base cost of the reservation. In the event that a borrower disputes any additional charges, Fluid Truck will investigate the charges to determine if they were a fair rate and assessment. In the event that Fluid Truck finds, in its sole discretion, that a lender charged a borrower inappropriately, untimely or without substantiation, Fluid Truck reserves the right to refund the borrower and asses the refund back to the lender. If Fluid reverses lender assessed charges, Fluid Truck will also collect a $25 fee for administrative expenses.

What kind of insurance does Fluid Truck have?

Fluid Truck is not an insurance company and does not sell insurance for reservations.   Fluid Truck provides protection contracts during reservations and allows borrowers and lenders to chose different deductible limits during those reservations.  During an active reservation, a lender’s vehicle is protected through Fluid’s third party liability insurance coverage up to $1,000,000. Lenders will pay a $1500 deductible for claims filed against this policy. That means that Fluid will pay the damage costs caused during a reservation after you, the lender, have paid your $1500 deductible and provided that all damage and claims against this coverage are reported in accordance with Fluid’s policies.  Fluid has protection options for commercial borrowers, please reach out to help@fluidtruck.com for additional information.

Please note that Fluid does not offer coverage for the following:

  • Interior or exterior wear and tear of the vehicle

Many of our lenders start their price at $5/hour and make changes depending on level of usage, seasonality, and length of rental period.

What should I include in my vehicle description?

We recommend you craft a detailed vehicle description, including:

  • Make
  • Model
  • Color
  • Year
  • Manual or automatic
  • Any particular characteristics — please disclose anything a borrower should know (e.g., if you have a liftgate, etc.)
  • Pick-up instructions
  • Drop-off instructions

Including high quality pictures of the exterior and interior of the vehicle will also help maximize reservations.

Where should I park my vehicle to maximize transactions?

Fluid Truck vehicles are most often reserved by your neighbors and nearby community — individuals that live within just a couple of miles of you. For that reason, we recommend that you park the vehicle within a nearby radius of where you live. (And don’t forget to promote your vehicle on Nextdoor and other community bulletin boards to let your neighbors know that your truck is available!)

Additional parking tips and tricks:

  • Fluid Truck borrowers often rent vehicles more than once, making it part of their regular activities. Keeping your vehicle in a predictable spot can help drive repeat business.
  • If you move your vehicle, you’ll need to raise awareness among a new community at the new location. Nextdoor and other community bulletin boards are great ways to do this.
  • Lenders often park their vehicles near Home Depots, Costcos, and other large stores, to make pick up convenient for borrowers transporting their purchases home.
  • Make sure to move your vehicle for street sweeping and snow shoveling!

I initially accepted a reservation, but forgot to cancel. How can I refund the borrower?

Once a reservation has started neither the lender nor borrower will be able to cancel the transaction. Contact Fluid Truck at help@fluidtruck.com and provide your reservation number, cancellation details, and your full name. We will make sure to process the refund immediately for the borrower. It’s also best to communicate with the borrower that you contacted Fluid Truck, so they are aware that you are taking responsibility to reconcile the situation.

In the event that you do not fulfill your reservation with a borrower within the cancellation window permitted by Fluid Truck or if your reservation cannot be completed because of lender responsibility, Fluid Truck will assess a $50 charge to the lender to offset the cost of providing your borrower with a suitable replacement vehicle or other costs.  In the event that a vehicle is not at the location you specify or if you fail to show up for a booked reservation, Fluid Truck will assess a $150 charge to offset costs associated with lender’s failure to fulfill.   All fees are assessed in Fluid Truck’s sole discretion.
