When you aren’t working, what are you usually doing?

“I'm playing video games of some sort, or out riding my horse at my parents’ place. I have two [horses]! One is an old geriatric guy, and my other one gets ridden most, although he's pretty lazy. I do "eventing," of which there's dressage, show jumping, and cross country, where you're out in a big field jumping over logs or barrels. It's super interesting! I fell into cross country and fell in love with it.”

Do you have any pets?

“Besides my horses, I have two dogs: Wicket and Wheatley. Wicket is an Australian cattle dog, and Wheatley is an Aussie cattle dog mix. They’re both so great. I love them.”

What’s your favorite part of your job?

“I would say a big part of it is the fact that it's a little bit like detective work. You're presented with a problem, and then you have to reverse engineer it or work with other teams and put puzzle pieces together. Another interesting (but stressful) thing is how quickly it changes. There's always new stuff happening and going on. I’m never bored!”

Do you have any secret talents?

“I do a good job of explaining technical things to someone who’s not very well-versed. I explained different web browsers to my parents once, and told them it’s like grocery stores. They all do the same things and have the same stuff inside. It just depends on where you want to go and how you want to get there.”

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

“Accept where you are in your learning process, and don’t be too hard on yourself. Don't compare your success to other people’s. It’s easy to say, ‘I should be so much further along in my career,’ but you have to take a step back. And I think that's a good thing to focus on. You're not competing against other people, you're really only competing with yourself.”

Do you have a favorite line from a movie or book?

“It’s from Fight Club: “Sticking feathers up your butt doesn't make you a chicken.” I liked that one because it's kinda true! You can't put a facade on that you are something that you're not. You have to become what you want to live the way you want to.”

If you had a TED Talk, what would it be about?

“Probably something along the lines of ‘security for everyone’ or ‘security for dummies.’ Security is for everybody, and it's not difficult. It can be an easy thing for everybody to integrate into their lives.”

If you could have a Fluid Truck full of one thing, what would it be?

“Dogs! I love dogs. I love my dogs and having a fluid truck full of puppies would be amazing.”

Why would you tell someone to come work at Fluid Truck?

“I think the great thing is the drive that everyone has to make sure that the company is successful. It's interesting because there's not a lot of micromanagement, but everyone wants to strive for the company to be successful. It shows the culture of being laid back and relaxed, but everyone wants to make sure the job gets done. We can look at our achievements and give ourselves a pat on the back.”
