Meet David H., Fluid Truck’s Regional Sales Manager covering New Orleans, Austin, and San Antonio. David approaches his work and his life like he approaches sports –– with a helpful, humble, and positive attitude. He’s a trivia buff, crawfish fan, and a kind soul. What’s your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part is that it's never boring, and you get to make a difference. I enjoy helping customers solve issues and better their business. Along with that, I really like stealing business from our competitors.
When you aren’t working, what are you usually doing?
I'm a big family guy. I love hanging with my wife, my son and my dog. I'm a big sports guy too, I love watching my Saints and LSU teams, and I love being outdoors, playing basketball and baseball, and I work out six to seven times a week. At night I love binge watching tv shows with my wife and dog.
Other than that, trivia! We're in a trivia league, and we play twice a week. Last year we were #1 in the country! I'm good at the sports questions, but my wife and our other two friends carry us. Our team name is “Gen X and David,” because they’re all older than me.
Do you have any pets?
My dog’s name is Roux. He's a hunting dog, even though I don’t hunt. He's my bff; I love him to death. We do everything with him. Poor little guy is 12 now, he's diabetic and mostly blind and deaf. When he was younger he'd go on runs with me but now we settle for car rides so he can stick his head out of the window.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
It was from my college football coach: “Learn from the experience of others.” Learn from their mistakes, learn from their successes. If you're not in play, watch what's going on. If we ever made a mistake that'd already been made on the field, we'd get chewed out. It saves you time, money, and effort to learn from others’ experiences!
If you could have a Fluid Truck full of one thing, what would it be?
Right now I'd say crawfish. This season was bad, it was really expensive.
What motivates you at work?
Helping people. Being able to help customers solve issues while being able to support my family at the same time. I've always enjoyed helping people –– I have a coaching background and that rolls into being able to help people grow.
If you had a TED Talk, what would it be about?
How failure is not a bad thing. especially coaching younger kids and in high school - they're so afraid of failure. As if our society looks down on it. But you need failure to succeed! I'd probably wrap sports into it.
What would you tell someone who wants to come work at Fluid Truck?
If they are passionate about helping people and making a difference, and enjoy a fast-paced environment that's ever-changing, Fluid Truck is for them.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
It's a 3 part –– Crawfish Monica pasta, warm chocolate melting cake, and Long Island Iced Tea (maybe a few long island iced teas…)
