Week Three: Meet Ben T.

Ben is our Senior Accountant, based at Fluid Truck’s headquarters in Denver, CO. When he’s not working, he rock climbs and paints. He speaks German, and he participates in a really cool program that assists cancer and Alzheimer's research. Read on to learn more about one of our A-Boys (the self-titled name of Fluid Truck’s accounting team!)

What are you doing when you aren’t working?

I like playing with my cat, rock climbing, and painting.

Tell me about your cat!

My cat’s name is Nugget. He's a dapper, 18lb gentleman. He's thicc.

Do you support any sports teams?

Alabama everything! I also like the New Orleans Saints. And the Rocket City Trash Pandas - a minor league baseball team from Huntsville.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I like so much about it! It's hard to pick between so many things. I like to feel connected to the result of my work, and that I feel heard, and that I get to work with a bunch of people who don't think like I do. I love the diversity of thought that I’m surrounded by every day.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I speak German!

What’s your favorite German thing to say?

"Das ist mir Wurst" - literally "That's sausage to me" meaning "I don't care" or "Makes no difference to me"

What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Under promise, over deliver.

What’s your favorite line from a movie or book or lyric from a song?

“Man cannot remake himself without suffering, for he is both the sculptor and the marble.” I’m not sure who said it… but Google it.

[A surgeon named Alexis Carrel said it - he was a French surgeon and biologist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1912 for pioneering vascular suturing techniques, and he paved the way for doctors to safely perform organ transplants.]

If you were going to present a TED Talk, what would it be called?

“Shut up more, talk less”

If you could have a Fluid Truck full of one thing, what would it be?

Jello!

Do you have a favorite joke?

[This one is particularly relevant because every day in the Accounting department there’s a “Dad Joke of the Day”]

Q: When does a joke become a Dad Joke?

A: When it becomes apparent!

Do you have any hobbies or a side hustle?

When I'm at work, my computer solves problems to help cure cancer and alzhimers. When I’m at work, I leave my computer running "Folding at Home" , which is like cryptocurrency mining hardware, but it does research for Alzheimers and other important topics.
