To celebrate National Accounting Day on November 10th, this Employee Spotlight focuses on Fluid Truck’s head of Finance, Mike R.! He steers the ship that is the A-Boys (the nickname for the gentlemen of Fluid Trucks’ accounting team) and has the critical job of overseeing the numbers here. Keep reading to learn more about Mike!

What are you usually doing when you’re not working?

Usually I’m up in the mountains, snowboarding, hiking, skiing, or rock climbing.

Do you have any pets?

Yes! Rossi (short for Rosignol, the ski company) is almost four! She's a mutt, a Kelpie mix and has HIGH ENERGY. She loves mountain biking and rock climbing as well. She'll jump on top of anything. And she’s got big ears!

What’s your favorite part of your job?

All the interesting and new problems and solutions that arise. Being able to jump head first into a lot of different areas and problem solve for things I've never seen or had to deal with before. Also having kickass people to do it with too! It's always about the people.

Do you have any secret talents?

I have a pilot's license. That's unique. I got it at the Broomfield Airport a couple of years ago.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My dad told me to “go into accounting instead of finance, because you can always build up into other business roles from accounting. It’s harder with finance.” You can work your way up to anything in accounting. It’s a great basis for anything you want to move into in the business world. I drove the rest of my career from there, so it’s probably the best advice I’ve gotten.

Do you have a favorite line from a movie or book or song?

"I live my life a quarter mile at a time" - Fast and Furious

If you were to have a TED Talk, what would it be about?

Definitely around snowboarding, backcountry, and avalanche safety and snow safety. I've been doing a lot of research and I've gotten my friends into it. There’s just so much to learn, and so much science around why snow behaves the way it does. Colorado is the most dangerous place for avalanches in the country.

What’s your least favorite chore?

I don't like laundry. It's a pain. Especially bedsheets. It takes so much time to take them off and put them on. With a dog it's a bigger deal, she gets hair everywhere. It’s the worst.

If you could have a Fluid Truck full of any one thing, what would you want it to be?

Probably climbing gear. It’s too expensive and I always end up losing it on various climbs. Unlimited climbing gear would be ideal.

What’s your favorite snack?

Oreos! I can’t stay away if they’re around.

If someone asked you why they should work at Fluid Truck, what would you tell them?

The opportunity to be with a company that's growing so fast and into so many areas of the industry and expanding around  the country and internationally is so amazing. It gives you experience you won't get anywhere else. It's extremely exciting and interesting, and you just don't get that from other companies. They just don't have the wide reach that Fluid Truck has.
