This Week, Meet Justin M.

Justin is our Head of User Experience. He’s originally from Iowa and he makes electronic music when he’s not helping our UX team create a seamless and beautiful experience for the users of the Fluid Truck app. Keep reading to learn more about Justin!

When you aren’t working what are you doing?

I have a one year old, so that dominates a good chunk of time. But I love to listen to music, painting and drawing, being outdoors as much as possible, watching football and basketball.

Do you have any pets?

Two dogs - a Golden Retriever and a German Shepherd.

Do you support any sports teams?

Unfortunately I grew up in Iowa.... so I follow the Hawkeyes and they break my heart every year. When I moved to Denver I decided to go with the Denver teams like the Broncos and Nuggets.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

Collaborating and interacting with people. In my role I work with engineers, product people, the marketing side, Jimmy, and our customers. So I enjoy all of those different interactions to pull ideas out of people and bring them to life. And I like to make and produce stuff. We're not necessarily the builders, but we are a part of the building so it's fun to make and create stuff for my job. And then it comes to life!

Do you have any secret talents?

I can DJ! I make electronic music. I used to play shows here around town, but that has kind of faded.... I play the piano too! Want to check out Justin’s music? Check out his SoundCloud!

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

"It's better to ask forgiveness than ask permission," and "question everything - verify on your own."

Do you have a favorite line from a movie, book, or song?

"So you're telling me there's a chance!" from dumb and dumber, haha!

If you were to have a TED talk, what would the subject be?

Something to do with Bitcoin. It's super interesting. It traverses finance and politics and technology and crazy forces you may not consider. I'd call it "what is money??"

What’s your least favorite chore?

I'm really good at vacuuming... and outdoor tasks are my world. My least favorite would probably be putting away baby clothes.

If you could have a Fluid Truck full of one thing, what would you want it to be?

Golden Retriever puppies!

What would you tell someone who wants to work at Fluid?

This is my first chance to work for someone like Jimmy - a true entrepreneur. Taking a plunge like that was super refreshing. Someone who has a vision. The people in leadership here are really good. That's a huge part of it. Also we're growing, but we don't have a ton of corporate overhead. I don't have to do as much "corporate overhead" stuff - The stuff that I've had to do in other companies that's outside of the creative world. I get to focus on the stuff that's fun and that I enjoy. Low levels of emails too! And lots of swag.

Want to work for a genuine entrepreneur in a company that doesn’t drown you with emails? You’re in luck - we’re hiring! Click here to check out what positions we have available.
