This Week, Meet Austin K.

Austin is our Electric Vehicle Supply Chain Manager. His job involves creating relationships with EV suppliers and retailers, and helping develop our electric vehicle program. He’s from a small town in Nebraska where his father is the mayor, and he may or may not be the biggest Step Brothers fan in the office. Keep reading to learn more about Austin and why he loves working at Fluid Truck!

When you aren’t working, what are you doing?

I'm typically at the gym every day, I don't like to miss a day. If I've already done that, I’m hiking, hanging with my friends and girlfriend, and in any other free time I'm pretty much always facetiming with my nephews.

Do you have any pets?

Not in Colorado, but I have literally every animal you can think of at home in Nebraska. My dog's my favorite, and my horse. And we've got plenty of cows and goats, chickens, pigs.... everything in the animal kingdom.

What sports teams do you support?

I bleed husker red (I’m from Nebraska). Pro sports I follow are pretty much only NFL, and I'm a Steelers guy.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Really everything. Working in the EV industry is such an exciting adventure every day. I get to deal with a lot of new and up and coming businesses and be a part of a lot of really popular projects.

Do you have any secret talents?

When I was young my dad taught me how to moonwalk. Since then I've gotten MUCH better. (Austin takes off his shoes and demonstrates, I can confirm that he can indeed moonwalk, even on carpet in socks.)

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Jimmy said something to me that stuck a while back - it was really simple, "be passionate about everything you do." So everything I do, I try to be passionate about.

Do you have a favorite line from a movie or song or book?

Did we just become best friends?!

If you were going to have a TED Talk, what would it be about?

Probably something to do with fitness. I've been pretty passionate about it since I was young. I stuck with it and I’ve learned a lot along the way. Quality over quantity is my advice with fitness. Form is more important than moving a bunch of weight. Super important.

What’s your least favorite chore?

That's a tough one because I love cleaning - I love doing the dishes, cleaning, organizing, doing laundry. I love cooking, I love baking. I have fun doing the dishes. Washing my pickup might be my least favorite chore, because I know it'll just get dirty again.

If you could have a Fluid Truck full of something, what would it be?

A bunch of mac n cheese. It HAS to be Kraft Four Cheese Deluxe.

Do you have a favorite joke?

What did the father buffalo say to his son when he left for college?

Bi-son!

Do you have any hobbies or a side hustle?

Yes! I took up carpentry work before I started at Fluid because nobody was hiring, and I'd been kinda following my grandpa's footprints. I'd make tables and chairs and stuff and sell it. I don't do it as much anymore, but my goal is to grow the operation and focus on more special order stuff. I'm going to start an Etsy shop soon!

If someone asked you why they should work at Fluid Truck, what would you tell them?

Very simply, you'll never find another opportunity like this one. It's not often that companies are so employee-centric and focused on their workforce. I feel like the opportunities even outside of your direct growth path are exponential - Especially with cross-departmental training and opportunities like that. You can really get a taste of everything here.
