This month’s Employee Spotlight centers on Angie M, Fluid Truck’s Head of Human Resources for Buenos Aires. With a large part of the Fluid Truck team located in Argentina, Angie makes sure that they’re taken care of when it comes to HR.

On a visit to the Denver Headquarters, Angie tried some local empanadas… watch below for an Argentenian’s opinion on some USA-made empanadas! Then, keep reading to learn more about Angie.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is the fact that I can get to know people. I actually get to know everyone. And it sounds silly, but when you’re working in a big company with lots of coworkers, you tend to not meet everyone. Since I’m HR, I actually get to know everyone, and that’s cool. We have a lot of crazy people in the company and that’s fun.

The cultural difference between the US and BA is really interesting too. We are so different in so many crazy ways, and that’s so interesting! For me, being a psychologist, it’s crazy to see the different types of behaviors. I analyze it and I enjoy that. It inspires me and I think it’s really important to experience the cultural differences.

When you aren’t working, what are you usually doing?

I’m usually spending time with my dog – basically my best friend. My boyfriend and my dog are my two besties. Generally I’m with them doing nothing or eating. I love eating.

Do you have any pets?

My dog Jupiter is very funny. He’s a reflection of myself – he sometimes has a bad temper, he bites people! Then the rest of the time he’s the cutest thing ever. It’s literally my Gemini personality. My friends say the same thing – if I were a dog, I’d be him.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Study as much as you can! This sounds boring and obvious, but I started working when I was very young, so I didn’t study anything. I started working in different companies and didn’t have much theoretical knowledge. Then I started at University and I realized how important it is to actually read and be informed. Knowledge is power! It’s a great way to have a formed opinion on things, it opens your mind a lot.

Another good piece advice is to have good critical thinking. It’s vital for any job. Anything you do, it’s absolutely important.

Any secret talents?

I’m a good actress… I think, at least. And I can talk to my dog. I make a little noise and he responds to me and we have a conversation!

If you could have a Fluid Truck full of one thing, what would it be?

Flowers! 100%. Flowers are my favorite thing in the world. I love flowers. I would have flowers in every single corner of my apartment.

If you had a TED Talk, what would it be about?

My topic would be something like, “how to reinvent yourself”. I always get bored with everything I do, so I found out that for me to be motivated, I have to make changes, change my habits. If you find a way of keeping yourself motivated, you can be a lot more productive and creative.

My TED Talk would be about trying to reinvent yourself. I’d also do one on critical thinking. That, for me, is the most important thing in my life – being critical about everything. I’d have a 15 minute talk about, “question what you do, and question what others are doing as well.” Constantly questioning what you’re doing. And don’t feel bad for it!

What’s your favorite snack?

My favorite thing in the world is choripan. It’s kind of a hot dog ,but not really… it’s a little bigger. The classic way to eat it is with salsa criolla, or with chimichurri. My favorite snack, and favorite food in the world!

Why would you tell someone to come work at Fluid Truck?

I get that question every day when I do interviews! It sounds like a cliche, but Fluid Truck is a great place to work because the people are great. Everyone loves what they’re doing. We try so hard. I think it’s a great opportunity to work for a company that thinks really big. It’s very interesting – this is the first time I’ve worked for a company that has super big projections for what they really want for the company. That’s very exciting to me. Fluid Truck is their people. A cool place with cool people, and it’s enjoyable to work here. I’m surrounded by funny people who enjoy working together. I love working as a team here.
